i voted play the kids, if seto gives his 100% then he will be a great pickup for that price, as long as he's skating hard!

Im hoping he hits around 20 goals and the Flames can flip him for a pick/prospect at the TDD. Would go down as a solid transaction for the Flames. If he hits 20+ goals again...(not likely but who knows), he'll be worth too much to resign.

I agree that deep down I just want to play the kids. Reinhart, Knight, Agostino, Arnold, Wolf all are ready to showcase their stuff at the prime time. Guys like Seto, yes, great value signing are going to eat the minutes. Yes, he'll probably do pretty good because he had a bucket of cold water slapped in his face. So unless the intention is to pump him up & flip him at the TDL, well. What happens the following year when he gets a new 3-4 year deal? Does he revert back to his old self? I want the above kids to get minutes, to get the opportunity to play NHL level & this year, the Mceichel year, is the best time to do this. But that's just me. I know, this was a very good signing, good term & dollar value type of deal on a badly needed RW position. So I think great signing but deep down, I'm disappointed.

that would be best by far, up his value, move him for a pick or prospect.

thats win win situation right there, him taking away time from a younger prospect is what you are trying to avoid, no need to rush though either right?

all in all its a good thing, as long as seto is playing hard hockey like he can.

I dont think Seto will hit 20, unless some young line mate of him is carrying the load. His totals have been dropping every season and arguablly he is playing with worse and worse Centers going from Sharks, to Wild, to Jets.

I think he can be useful and will be an attractive piece for a contending team to add, but like I said, he needs to catch fire with whoever anchors that line or else you just have another TJ Galiardi on the roster

If seto gets a chance to play on line 2 with monahan i could see him hitting 20.

of course he has to get moved up, i think he starts on line 3. just a hunch.

he's cheap, and plays the RW.

gives options so that the young ones can be eased in and not rushed into a line up spot.

Everyone gets to earn a spot with options like this. Jones is the player in our lineup that feels like an unneeded salary. Fact that he's RW is whats saving him right now.

If he comes in with passion/energy...

1. Curtis Glencross – Mikael Backlund – Jiri Hudler

2. Johnny Gaudreau/Mason Raymond – Sean Monahan – Devin Setoguchi

3. Joe Colborne – Matt Stajan – Mason Raymond/David Jones

4. Brian McGrattan/David Wolf – Lance Bouma – Brandon Bollig

I'm guessing

GlenX/backs/hudler
raymond/monahan/seto (jones)
JG(baert)/Stajan/Colborne
bollig/bouma (or reinhart/knight if not signed)/Grats

Only if he plays with Monahan does he have that shot, I cant see him lighting up the score sheet with Stajan (though would be a decent line).

I'm guessing this signing all but guarantees bennet will be back in junior and sven will start in the AHL which isn't a bad thing

I think that its a better plan anyways.

I think granlund is going to come up before baert. If he keeps any numbers close to what he did last year as an AHL rookie

Just because the fan base is ready to see all these kids play in the NHL does not mean they are actually ready to do so. This is a perfect insurance signing, if a kid beats him out for a spot then $750k in the minors is not big deal. Let's hope he plays well enough to flip for a 2nd round pick at the trade deadline.... same with Hudler.

(frank) the kids!!!

But seriously, you have to earn your right to play in the NHL, it shouldn't just be gifted to you.

If Baertschi lights up the preseason and Setoguchi is doggin' it the whole time then I wont be happy if Baertschi gets sent down, but I don't think that would happen. It's all about internal competition. There's gonna be lots of ice time to be spread around and we all know injuries will happen. But you gotta make the kids work for it. If they don't rise to the occasion and step their games up they shouldn't be in the NHL anyway!

well said, gotta earn your spot.

for the 800k its worth having your prospects mature and come up when they are ready, so overall good move by the Flames....

I like the Seto move, sure there is an apparent issue of the ice and in his training, but the fact is this might be a wake up call.

He is in his prime years and the only team lining up to sign you was a bottom feeder. (Maybe there was other teams as well, but I don't think any would be much better).

Kid has something to prove now and for a team in it's transition years this could pay great dividends if Seto can prove he's still a legit top 6 threat.

This is what I'm thinking, but I don't see why 20 would be such a stretch. He was at that pace during the lockout and is still very much a young man

On facebook on one of the flames posts about seto some "fan" was stating this is a great signing of a former 50 goal scorer but seriously good signing treliving already 10x better than feaster

One Half Japanese and One Half Cree, both sharks. Guy just isnt down with cultural diversity getting them confused.

Edit: Just checked what Cheechoo has been up to. 19gs 19as in 54gms in the KHL...not the worst.
